Women in ASIM

About

Women in ASIM is an initiative that aspires to build a future where women lead transformative change, shape inclusive communities, and drive sustainable infrastructure development across Africa. At the moment the network comprises of twenty-four (24) Women from nine (9) different countries; Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and spread in four (4) institutions of higher learning namely Universities of Johannesburg, University of Malawi, Covenant University and Ardhi University.

Women in ASIM is product of a consortium made up of Ardhi University, Covenant University, University of Johannesburg, University of Malawi – The Polytechnic and Leeds Beckett University participated and under a grant on the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme Call Reference No. EACEA/07/2020. The award action entitled Africa Sustainable Infrastructure Mobility (ASIM). 

The ASIM collaboration between four African universities and one EU Technical partner objectively focuses on developing education, training, and research capacity for African professionals to enhance the delivery of Africa’s sustainable infrastructure and, aims to promote sustainable development by increasing the availability of trained and qualified high-level professional manpower in Africa.

The end goal is to improve the skills and competences of students and staff through enhanced mobility between African countries. This Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme is set up under the Pan-African Programme (Development Cooperation Instrument)

Women is ASIM therefore aligns itself with this primary aim of the project to increase the talent pool of expertise in infrastructure and consequently support the effort to develop the capacity of African Higher Education Institutions to deliver sustainable infrastructure education by ASIM.

Mission

Our mission is to empower, and encourage women to participate in sustainable infrastructure development, through knowledge-sharing and advocacy in the design, construction, and operation of infrastructure projects in Africa.

Objectives

  1. Empower women through leadership development programs in sustainable infrastructure.
  2. Advocate for women participation in the sustainable infrastructure development sector.
  3. Promote sustainable and eco-friendly infrastructure solutions that benefit African communities.
  4. Foster a strong network and collaborations among women professionals in sustainable infrastructure for knowledge-sharing and collective progress.
  5. Ensure the enduring success of the Women in ASIM program and foster a vibrant, life-long community for its member.
